LIBERAL DEMOCRAT COUNCILLORS CALL FOR A SMOOTH AND TRANSPARENT TRANSITION TO NEW AUTHORITY

The Sussex and Brighton Strategic Authority is now in place and the transition of East Sussex County Council functions to the new authority will begin immediately after the elections on 7 May.

Cllr Kathryn Field, Leader of the Liberal Democrat group on East Sussex County Council comments:

Cllr Kathryn Field
Kathryn has represented Battle, Catsfield, Crowhurst, Mountfield, Whatlington, Ashburnham and Penhurst since 1992 on East Sussex County Council, leading the Liberal Democrats as the largest opposition group to Tory run County Authority.

“The creation of this new authority means that there will be very limited opportunities to introduce changes to the way in which the County Council delivers its services.

A recent countywide poll of voting intentions in the local elections shows Liberal Democrats neck and neck with Reform at 30% each. Conservatives are polling at 15%, the Green Party at 12% and Labour at 9%.

The Liberal Democrats are the largest opposition group on East Sussex County Council with highly experienced, long-serving councillors.  It is this experience that will be needed in the next twelve months to ensure that residents' views are listened to as the new authority shapes its policies and strategies”.

Cllr Carolyn Lambert, County Councillor for Seaford South adds:

“Liberal Democrats believe that communities are at the heart of what we do.  A vote for Liberal Democrats on 7 May is a vote for sensible and transparent government that is realistic and based on community needs”.
