LIB DEM SUCCESS IN GETTING REVIEW OF BOOKING SYSTEM AT HOUSEHOLD WASTE SITES

Liberal Democrat councillors have managed to get cross-party agreement to a review of the booking system at the county’s Household Waste Recycling sites.  Cllr Kathryn Field, Leader of the Liberal Democrat group explains:

“The current booking system isn’t working.  Fly tipping has increased as we predicted and charity shops are also reporting dumping of rubbish with them which they then have to pay to dispose of.  Farmers are also experiencing dumping of waste on their land which again, they have to pay to dispose of as well as it being a risk to livestock.

When East Sussex County Council consulted on the proposal for a booking system, there was a massive response, over 5,000 to which 91% were against. The County Council simply ignored this.  We should be making it as easy as possible for residents to dispose of their rubbish legally and responsibly.

We have now got agreement for a cross-party group of councillors to scrutinise the system and hope that this time, the County Council will listen to the views of residents”.
